The story of Our Days Calendar might feel like a chapter from your own life.
In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, the worst hurricane and flooding in US history. We were safe, our house didn’t flood, and we sheltered a family of four. Post-Harvey, I drove around, helping people sheltered at churches and delivering food to fire departments.
In September, life seemed perfect. Our 3-year-old child was healthy, wife appeared happy, we had good jobs and a nice home. But then, everything changed.
One regular day, after picking up our child from daycare, having dinner, and doing chores, my wife wanted to talk. We were getting a divorce.
My world crashed. What followed was a lengthy, stressful, and costly litigation. I learned terms like “petitioner, motion for sanctions, TOs, SPO, E-SPO, Amicus attorney.” The visitation schedules in Texas were complex. Sleepless nights were spent worrying about our child’s future, wondering:
- How will this impact our child?
- How often can I see our child?
- How long does it take for a divorce to be final?
- How is the future going to look like?

I questioned how the future would look and saw our savings vanish in a senseless litigation. The pain of not seeing our child often, spending time in courts, with divorce lawyers, and learning a complicated child visitation schedule was overwhelming.
For example, a non-custodial parent sees the child every 1st, 3rd, and 5th weekend of the month (how could a month have 5 weekends?), every Thursday during school years, and alternating holidays.
Understanding legal jargon, paying lawyers, and keeping track of visitation days became a new challenge.
“How Do I Manage Co-Parenting Time?”
To manage this, I translated the SPO into a Google sheet, staying up late to perfect it. This sheet automatically calculated the visitation schedule and was shared with other co-parents, proving the need for such a tool.
Thus, the development of Our Days Calendar app started!
